SHARON KOLAWOLE'S LABS
LD-50 Lab
Collaborators: Alex King, Micaela Strickland, Habiba
Introduction: Everyday we handle toxic materials but we don't know just how toxic some of them are. LD-50 is the term used to describe acute ingestion toxicity. Ld means lethal dose and the 50 means that a certain dosage is lethal for 50% of a group.
Problem: How much salt is too much for radishes to grow and how much is not enough?
Hypothesis: If different concentrations of salt solution are used to grow radish seeds, then the growth of the radish seeds will vary according to concentration.
Parts of the Experiment:
Control group: No salt, test tube 6
Experimental group: test tubes 1-5, 12, 6, 3, 1.5, .75
Independent Variable: concentrations of salt solution
Dependent Variable: growth of radish seeds
Controllled variable: growth of control radish seeds
Materials: * see lab protocol #1-#3
Procedures: * see lab protocol #1-#3
Data:
Data Analysis: The data for all the groups were relative of each other, never disparing too much.
Conclusion: The data shows that too mcuh salt is detrimental for the growth of radish seeds and too little isn't the best either.
